Over the last decade, India has caught attention of the rest of the world due to its increasing prowess in services, technology, industry and innovation. It has transformed its image from a technological and economic backwater of the world to the torch bearer of rapid economic growth. However despite the considerable progress achieved in the last couple of decades, a significant part of the population lives below acceptable standards of living and this has seen the implementation of several social schemes with the help of both Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) across the country. Sustainable growth and alternative development models are becoming increasingly popular and are capturing the imagination of a large number of urban educated Indians as well as the Western world.

Providing primary education to girl children is an extremely effective way to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth via the healthy development of families, communities and the country. At IIM Calcutta, we believe that all of us have a responsibility to constantly strive for and give back to the community, and what better way to do this than to promote the education of the girl child?
Last year Team Intaglio announced a targeted scholarship scheme, “Sunehra Kal”, with the objective of promoting primary education among female children from rural families in backward areas. We are now proud to announce that the first “Sunehra Kal” scholarships have been granted during the inaugural ceremony of Intaglio 2012 on 5th Jan.
These scholarships will help deserving but underprivileged girl students from primary schools around the Kolkata area to cover school fees and related expenses. Intaglio has set aside an initial corpus of Rs. 4 lakhs for this scheme, the interest on which funds a minimum of 10 scholarships every year. This is an entirely self-sustainable scheme funded by the interest on the corpus.
If you would like to contribute to this cause, please get in touch with our co-ordinator Vaibhav Joneja at jonejav2012@email.imcal.ac.in for details. We welcome one-time as well as annual donations. Your contribution will enable us to widen the scholarship coverage and include more deserving girl children under the aegis of the “Sunehra Kal” scheme.
